Using a metric shit-tonne* of bubble wrap today and wondering there's a non-plastic alternative?

*speaking figuratively of course be ause that would be a LOT of bubble wrap

The traditional packing material was straw. Buy a bale off a local farmer and it will last you a year. 😆

Partially shredded cardboard mats are an excellent alternative. They are used as void filler or cushioning material. It obviously is not water resistant.

It's mostly a recycling byproduct though and probably not commercially available.
