Every time European journalists claim Putin is about to invade Poland or the Baltic nations, I just have one question: Putin and what army?
Is it the army which is already losing a war in Ukraine, or is it a new army that Putin funds with the oil revenue he no longer has?

Russia will try to intensify the current Ukraine/Poland political tensions to their advantage. The point could be to have Poland shut the border to Ukraine, preventing or slowing deliveries. Slovakia, Hungary, Romania — at least 2 of those may happily do the same. Ukraine can be completely isolated and the Russians are absolutely aiming for this.

He can't pull out of Ukraine, because admitting that Russia got its ass kicked by a much smaller country under his leadership is political suicide (and probably an exit through the nearest window), getting his ass kicked by Nato is a completely different thing and could allow him to end the war.
