Hey everyone, I’m #newhere. I’m interested in #boats, #music, #politics, #sailing, and #violin. Thanks for the invite, @Adam Hunt!

Ok. On my 4th pod. I believe this one will stick.

Violin ?
Do you listen to the Bach violin sonatas and partitas ?
in reply to jrsy

@Shawn Andrew Absolutely. They've been a mainstay of my listening all my life. Almost all of it is too much for me but I'm currently trying to work up the Prelude of the third partita. Really should not be that difficult, all about choosing the optimal fingering, but it is tricky in some places. I find even at a slow tempo I have trouble switching in a smooth fashion from one fingering pattern to the new one in the next bar. Try twisting your left wrist all the way counterclockwise to palm up, curl your fingers in, then move one finger up and down quickly. Now change the arrangement of your fingertips and switch to moving a different finger. Then change and alternate between with one finger and another... Oh, and did I mention mixing that with different bowing patterns. The whole process is more perplexing than simply reading through a line of notes.

@Shawn Andrew Interesting that you posted a violin arrangement of a Chopin piano piece. My son plays piano and he and I have been having fun doing that with some of the Chopin nocturnes. Wonderful melody lines for the violin.

There's composers who write for the piano then there's Chopin.
I particularly like the interpretations by Viktoria Mullova, Jaako Kuusisto, Tomas Cotik and Leonidas Kavakos.

Have you seen TwoSet violin on YouTube ?
in reply to jrsy

As well as Nathan Milstein playing the Bach sonatas and partitas.

Even the great violinists can sound self conscious performing these pieces.

If you're having trouble with pods try : diaspora.pysco.fr next time.

I grew up with the Heifetz recordings of the Bach. He owned that music. Too fast for many listeners' tastes. The Chaconne became a signature piece for him.

No problems now that I am on diasp.org.

What did Kreisler say while watching the child prodigy Heifetz performing ?

"We may as well break our fiddles over our knees !!!" or something similar.
